7 Islands and Love Island Beach

This beach rivals Garoda for the most beautiful beach in Watamu! 7 Islands beach, sometimes known as papa remo beach boasts the most scenic and iconic stretches of coast in Watamu! It is made special by the Seven Islands, a cluster of small coral islets rising out of the sea. The largest is known locally as Isola dell'Amore, or Love Island. At low tide the sandbars emerge and you can walk partway out toward them, which feels like your own private expedition, in mid tides the water fills over the white sand creating the most stunning crystal clear lagoons for swimming.

This beach itself is perfect for sunbathing, cocktails and that full tropical holiday feeling, with sunbeds, the best beach bars and cinematic views, a seriously relaxing spot where you can spend hours in the sun enjoying the incredible views and gentle ocean breeze!

It is also one of Watamu’s social hubs: Papa Remo is well known for its beach restaurant and its Saturday night parties and is a great place to access the beach from. There are various restaurants and hotels, including Tamu restaurant, Visiwa hotel and restaurant, 7 islands resort, Papa Remo beach, all which have incredible ocean front views of the 7 islands in all their glory.

In high season expect more visitors and a few beach operators offering boat trips, while the quieter months turn it into a peaceful retreat. Stay for golden hour, when the light on the islands is pure magic.

Love Island

The headline attraction is a small heart shaped island that becomes accessible by foot during low tide. It has become one of the most photographed spots in Watamu, and for good reason. Walking out to it feels like stepping into another world, surrounded by shallow crystal clear water on all sides!

Where to Eat

Four excellent restaurants sit directly on the beach. Willy Beach is the local favorite, serving fresh seafood and coconut water. Tamu Beach Restaurant does upscale Italian with ocean views. Visiwa Beach Bar covers Mediterranean and Italian dishes in a beautiful oceanfront setting and Papa Remo also serves Italian and international dishes, possibly with the best view of them all, the best spot to experience the 7 islands views... All three are within walking distance of each other.
