About this restaurant
Muk Muk Matcha Watamu
If you're looking for matcha in Watamu, this is the place to know! Muk Muk Matcha is a brand new Kenyan owned, women led specialty matcha concept serving premium ceremonial grade Japanese matcha from its unmistakable yellow pavilion in Watamu.
Instead of treating matcha as one extra drink buried somewhere on a coffee menu, Muk Muk has built the entire concept around it. The result is a dedicated specialty matcha spot serving high quality Japanese matcha in playful combinations designed for the Kenyan coast.
Cute cups, seriously good matcha, creative flavours and a beachy aesthetic make Muk Muk as much a place to photograph as it is somewhere to pick up your daily matcha.
For matcha lovers on the Kenyan coast, Watamu just got a whole lot better!
The Matcha
Muk Muk uses premium Japanese ceremonial grade matcha sourced directly from a fifth generation family farm in Japan.
Its matcha is traditionally cultivated and stone ground, giving the drinks the smooth, vegetal and slightly umami character people look for in good quality matcha (which is notoriously difficult to find in Kenya!)
The Vibe
Expect playful rather than formal.
Muk Muk has taken the matcha bar concept and given it a distinctly Kenyan coast personality: bright yellow, small scale, handmade, beachy and photogenic.
It's the sort of place you can stop at quickly for takeaway but will probably end up photographing your drink before you leave.
